In my weekly coaching call with my only business/marketing student last night, I went deep into the causes of why someone with a degree, why someone who is making a living, cannot move further up the life-satisfaction, life effectiveness scale.
I have found two blatant holes in him, that my guess is shared by all of you, or most of you.
1. a total blindness of what gives meaning and therefore the mood for life.
2. a total inability to see what is cause and what is effect.
So how do you fix that? You don't.
When you find something that isn't working or isn't working as well as you'd like it to, your knee jerk reaction is to fix it. Or change it. Or stop doing it.
But unless what you found is seed level, you can work till the cows come home, and you will only produce pretense, but not a change.
OK, that was quite a mouthful. Sorry about that...
Wherever you are in life, in any area of your life, you are in ess. In ess your actions, your ideas, your advisement will come from a "source" that wants to maintain that ess... If you are fat... then maintain being fat. If you are inactive, then maintain inactivity. If you are always engaging in bombastic dreams, then maintain that... engaging in bombastic dreams.

Why? It's an excellent wake-up call. It knocks you conscious... It has knocked me conscious!
2400 years ago, when Aristotle lived, people, scientists, knew very little about much of anything. They weren't less inquisitive, they didn't have less theories, they didn't argue less. They probably argued more...
They just had theories that are quite ridiculous by today's standards, knowing what we know today.
I trust you that you'll do what is in your best interest. That is what I want you to do... because then the information I'll glean from this test will be valid. thank you.

I have been asking this question for a few years now.
Marketing teachers tell me to find people who are kept awake at night by something that nag at them, that doesn't let them sleep... a problem, an itch that cannot be scratched. I am not attracted to the suffering.
I want to expand my business to start selling "stuff".
Most of us seem to know what it is, we feel it, some in their guts, some in their heart, but feel it, especially when other people are negative. When it's within us, we feel despair, anxiety, worry, we have a sense of dread, or we are sad, nervous, stressed, hyper, manic, depressed, or just listless. We get sick from it.
We do not recognize it as negativity on ourselves and that allows it to go rampant, unmanaged, something that happens to us and all we can do about it is complain, bear it, or take some pills.
In the normal course of events we don't notice anything special tied to what we think or say, because we are so mired in negativity, it's normal. Our life is lived in quiet (or not so quiet) desperation, and that's that. Continue reading "What is Negativity?"
