..that is one of the disappointing things you learn when you do work with me. I won't feed you baloney like "you are a spiritual being having a human experience..." and other garden variety horse manure.
The other half-sentence is just as disappointing: "you can't get out of this life alive..."
These two half-sentences address 70% of the popular delusions of humanity.
When I wrote the article about racial, ancestral identity and its importance, I touched on something that is not valuable for most people... because I didn't go deep enough and I didn't accurately identify what it takes to be proud of who you are, where you belong.
I got on the phone with one of the people who was very unhappy about that article... I was eager to talk, because it is near impossible to go beyond the visible by yourself. It is a whole lot easier when you get input... because what is invisible to you can be visible for another.
I feel and I behave like an injured quarterback without my usual programs at my usual computer.
And the big winter storm is here... so I most likely won't get the new computer on Thursday... Eh, we'll just limp along, and it will turn out the way it will turn out... I can handle it.
One of the topics that have come up from students over the past few days is their difficulty to focus.
I say it is ADHD. Now, I am not a doctor, but then again, that's a good thing. Because as long as you have some medication to take, you don't pay attention to anything: you let the meds do the work, and you become a slave. Even if the meds work, Actually, especially if the meds work.
You live in a world of your own design... Time to reinvent yourself as someone you can love
Your own design is like a filter you look through. You can't see the filter, just like you don't see the window unless you touch it...
A filter is like a pair of glasses...
A filter is also like a pair of glasses... They can be dark tinted, they can be yellow, green... and the world occurs differently with each pair of glasses. You can't see that it's the glasses that make the world look the way the world looks to you... unless you can take it off...
You can see only the ripples. The indication that there is something there...
It's the ripples that we don't like... we don't like the things we do, the things we think, the things we feel. We want to change the ripples. But the ripples are the surface of the iceberg... hidden, invisible...
But you can't change something that you don't know. You can't change something that you don't see.
We all want to reinvent ourselves, our world. Because what we have now is not working too well, not serving us too well. We can't have what we want, and we suffer.
Summary: Emotions... without emotions you feel deadened. But you only want good emotions... unfortunately, for you, you can't have the good without the bad, life is a roller coaster, and you would hate to be stranded on the top of the peak anyway...
I listened to the audiobook, Molecules of Emotions some 10 years ago in the car. It's a book written by a scientist, Candace Pert.
I did not set out to be a scientist of emotions... but I was eminently suited: instead of just talking about it, instead of writing about, I can actually verify the "findings", verify or un-verify the theories by feeling.
Our language doesn't keep up with the emotions: just like we don't have words for the billions of colors that can be created with the four base colors of light, red, blue and yellow... and of course white... we don't have accurate words for the feelings that are a combination, an energetic combination of base feelings. When you decide on an organizing principle, aka direction for your life, you'll suddenly find yourself with obstacles blocking even your view of the horizon, let alone your path.
This article is about that...
Some ten years ago I learned a valuable way of looking at making life meaningful, or living a meaningful life. The teacher suggested that we pick a horizon, a direction, and then look what's blocking the way of getting there.
Since then I saw that even seeing the horizon is blocked... Blocked by seven boulders, lined up one behind the other, blocking your view, blocking your movement.
So, in my coaching practice, when I ask people to set a direction, and they can't see any, I am inclined to suggest that they choose the direction: living a meaningful live, or a fulfilled life... without specifying what it is.
