Yesterday I used the free community van to get to two stores I cannot get to easily on my own.
Note: in the illustrations I am not taking sides. I am illustrating that there is confusion and disagreement in what is race, what is racist, what is racism, and what it does is it makes people rigid, lie about what they think, and vote for Trump... ugh.
The driver of the van, PhD in sociology, asked if it bothered me if he continued to listen to NPR radio 1 . It was a public debate in Trump and if he was a racist.
I was looking for pictures for "accurate knowledge" on google... hardly any results. Then I looked for "garbage in garbage out, and I hit the jackpot"... I will put some of the best pictures at the end of this article... they are really funny... But now, let me get to the knowledge article.... OK, here you go:
I am reading Aristotle.
Why? It's an excellent wake-up call. It knocks you conscious... It has knocked me conscious!
2400 years ago, when Aristotle lived, people, scientists, knew very little about much of anything. They weren't less inquisitive, they didn't have less theories, they didn't argue less. They probably argued more...
They just had theories that are quite ridiculous by today's standards, knowing what we know today.
Most people ask me what they should do about other people's negativity... but ultimately you can't change anything there, you can only change yourself.
So, what can you do with your negativity?
There are permanent and temporary solutions. But even if you do permanent solutions, you will need to maintain mental hygiene, just like you need to wash your hands all the time, or cut your nails.
Temporary solutions work best if you have lots of discipline and are able to be self-aware close to 24/7.
The art is catching yourself in the act of negativity, and of course to do that you need to know all the ways negativity expresses itself. It's a lot like weeding. Weeds are stronger than cultivated plants and grow faster too. Same is the situation with negativity.
Another similarity with weeds is that you can remove the top of the weed plant, or you can remove it from its deep roots.
A few years ago I took a sabbatical, and all summer I worked on a small patch of ground that was full of weeds. Had I suspected that the weeds spread by deeps horizontal shoots on the roots, I would have probably left the whole thing alone, but I didn't, and once I declared war on the weeds I stuck with it. It was, for me: it is either the weeds, or me! And I needed all the energy from that battle-cry! Some roots were as deep as two feet, but I got to them, and I was relentless. Imagine that you got yourself a car without a user's manual. Or a computer. And there would be no person that you know that even knows what they are about... these items would rust, collect dust, be in the way... instead of giving you the power to quickly get from one place to the other, or to solve seemingly impossible problems, communicate to millions with your computer.
This is exactly the situation with regards to life on Earth, with regards to human beings.
Billions of people wonder, daily, why they are here, and what they are supposed to do. Are you one of them? I sure am and have been.
Billions of people wonder why life isn't working the way it is supposed to work... because somehow we KNOW that life is supposed to be satisfying, joyous, and full of light and love and pleasure.
What if there were a User's Manual, and it were being "translated" little by little, so every human being that is interested in "riding the horse in the direction it's going" could figure out which direction the horse is going. Because with life it is not that easy: even though the smell (life stinks) gives us clues... but life is ultimately more complicated that riding a horse.
