Emotional Intelligence: learning what emotions are…

Given that I go deep inside humans… deep into the invisible… all the way to DNA, this article is different than what everyone says about emotional intelligence…

So if you want the same b.s. beware… It isn’t. Continue reading “Emotional Intelligence: learning what emotions are…”

Stone Soup: the fairy tale. Case studies galore

stone soupCapacities, distinctions, intelligence, and success in life: there is a strong correlation. The Stone Soup fairy tale is an excellent teaching story.

Let’s start with debunking the current worldview, that intelligence is inborn. We are all born tabula raza… a blank slate.

Your intelligence depends on the number of large chunks, neural connections permanently formed in your brain firing together automatically. Those chunks are created in learning. Not learning about… no, actual learning a skill to unconscious competence.  Driving a vehicle is unconscious competence for most. Reading and comprehending? not so much. Who, what should be your teacher for life?

compare monkeys and homo sapiensWho should be your teachers? What should be your teachers?

And why do you need teachers?

Everyone thinks they should know more, have more. Be right more. Look better more often. Have more liberty, more stuff, less annoying stuff.

But no one teaches you how to let go, how to become free… again.

Let go? Hell yeah.

Most soul corrections, in fact the whole of humanity, with rare exceptions, spend their lifetime compensating for some inane incident that a more intelligent species would have shaken off… no big deal.

But not the Bandar-log, the just out of the monkey evolutionary phase homo sapiens… no, they are not intelligent enough. Even monkeys are more intelligent… don’t be offended, I’ll explain.

No, homo sapiens finds its excuse for not becoming all they can be, for abusing themselves and others, in their rear view mirrors.

Where they see abuse, slights, no power, injustice, embarrassment, fear, hurt, powerlessness, no acceptance, what have you… and… Continue reading “Who, what should be your teacher for life?”

I am going to toot my own horn… if I don’t, maybe no one will

tooting my own hornIf you are not for you, who is for you? (~Hillel)

If You Don’t Toot Your Own Horn, Who Will?

One of the results I got out of having my own predatory genes adjusted from zero to three, is self-appreciation. I now own my results. I am proud of them. Not too much… just as much as they deserve to be proud of.

Finally Hillel the elder would be proud of me. Having no predatory genes, I was never fully be able to be for myself… I always hoped that someone will come and rescue me. Continue reading “I am going to toot my own horn… if I don’t, maybe no one will”

How to disappear all of your past… so you can have an empty future?

I was looking for good pictures to go with this topic, and I was struck to what degree people think that what they have as their past is what happened in the past.

100% of what happened, what you say happened, what you remember happened, actually didn’t happen. You only remember what you said about it… the meanings, the interpretations. Not what happened in reality.

Getting to see what is in reality, what was in reality, takes work, and a serious change in how you look.

This article will be most useful for my students, who have been doing that work for a long time, some of them as long as a full year…

So if what I am saying doesn’t make a lot of sense… consider that it should not… You don’t have the foundation, the skills, the capacities that only practice can give you… Real practice. Deliberate practice.

If you want the results my students are getting, you need to do the work my students are doing… in the Playground. Day in and day out… Continue reading “How to disappear all of your past… so you can have an empty future?”

Connecting the dots in the right order: cause and effect

connect the dotsConnecting the dots in the right order… seeing cause and effect accurately

Seeing what-causes-what is missing. Yesterday I said 99.99% of humanity lacks it… I wasn’t exaggerating. It’s really 99.999%… ten times more that lack it.

In essence one in 100,000 people, or ten in a million have it even partially, in one area of life.

It’s an intellectual capacity, fundamentally essential to success in the world

This is why Mathematics, Physics, and Geometry is so hard for people. Continue reading “Connecting the dots in the right order: cause and effect”

How do you change the future? By changing the past…

opposable thumbsEver feel like you are just the thumb Source needs to get things done? Things that need a thumb… Physical things…

I used to have a cat. And cats teach you about yourself things you never wanted to know, like how insignificant and useless you are.

But one thing they also teach you that has served me well is teaching me that I have thumbs. Opposable thumbs. And in spite of their contempt for me otherwise, I can be useful because I can operate the can opener.

And god… whatever god is, is a lot like my cat. It needs a human with opposing thumbs to get things done in the physical universe. God doesn’t have a thumb. God is an energy, in all, through all, it is omnipotent… but lacking physical manifestation, it lacks a thumb… lol. So, us, humans, are here to make things happen.

For the most part, this has been my experience of that energy I call Source. Especially when I play Freecell.

Getting to clear. Getting to whole and complete.

Why are you miserable… why do you pretend to be happy?

Good question, isn’t it? Both parts…

My answer is the same to both questions… both parts.

It is the shoulds.

They are everywhere. Society, family, partner, government, religion, everyone we come in contact with place a should on us… and we take it, even if we don’t like it.

When we are born, life is big, and our playing ground is huge.

Then come the no’s and the do or else’s…

And with every no and with every “do or else” the playing ground where we are free to do what we want to do gets smaller and smaller.

When I look at people, they are pretty much restricted to a life the size of a playpen. Area where they are free to be themselves, area where they can be curious, area where they can do what they want to do. Continue reading “Getting to clear. Getting to whole and complete.”

Can you count on yourself to be winning in life today?

the light at the end of the tunnelQuestions, ordinary questions make you look for an answer. And getting that answer shuts down the looking.

Other questions, like the question in the title make you look… But the answer… oh, the answer creates an even bigger opening… it is like the abyss opened up in front of your feet… Fill your heart with dread.

And that is what was the purpose of the question… to open up the abyss…

Your self-view today is a tricky thing to predict. It will grow out of your seed level: of who you are that you are, whether you can count on yourself to be winning at life today, and other questions, very similar to the one in the title. All designed to confront you, to arrest you, to wake you up. Continue reading “Can you count on yourself to be winning in life today?”

Following a script or doing your way… what is predictable?

Why do I read my (and your) Rob Brezsny horoscope every Tuesday? Do I believe that they foretell the future?

I don’t.

But every horoscope, yours or mine, gives me a different vantage point to life, a filter, a frame, through which I can see what is not visible (for me) through my day-to-day frame…

The exact same thing was true about listening to the 67 steps by Tai Lopez.

On average I took a redirection of my vantage point five times a week for three years by the 67 steps. Plus 52 times a year by Rob Brezsny.

To change from where you look, you need to step back, tear away your eyes from how you are looking at things now, and consciously move your attention to a new place, a new frame, a new vantage point.

Most people are stuck with one way to look, in every area of life… like the 35 year old man who still whines that his daddy is mean to him.

Saying “mean” is a fixed way of looking. Continue reading “Following a script or doing your way… what is predictable?”
