The life of a pinball… or Your expectations and your disappointments

Your expectations and your disappointments reveal to you and to everyone who knows anything about the unconscious world view that makes sure you are miserable.

You learned that the Universe, Reality, your body, other people are like a vending machine. Push a button and outcomes what you wanted.

Or a car, or an electric mixer. Mechanistic, there for your service.

Even the evil people, religion, law of attraction, manifestation people teach that... with one little twist: if you are good, then the machine will turn on and spit out what you wanted.

So these people with their little twist make it your own fault if and when it doesn't work.

But what you think about the world and the way the world works are very different.

And you go from expectation to disappointment, anger, dismay, disgust... according to your temperament. Continue reading "The life of a pinball… or Your expectations and your disappointments"

The mind is the stupid part of you…

Your mind, your stupid part, has no direct knowledge about reality. It has no concern, no regard to reality... It has in it what the memes have programmed it to have... 1% reality, 99% b.s. And your mind is, therefore, your worst friend. It is killing YOU and it is killing your life... sometimes slowly, sometimes really fast. 1

Every Tuesday I read my email to find my weekly horoscope, and here it goes... again. Setting a context for my life, a context I could have never dreamed up myself... Rob Brezsny and his weekly horoscopes I would not want to miss. Continue reading "The mind is the stupid part of you…"

How Actual Smart People Talk About Themselves

This is an article from The Atlantic... Hint: not by discussing IQ The I here is James Fallows... although I tend to agree with him. this is a companion article to my previous article on self-esteem...

If you just want to know what people who are actually smart think of themselves... talk about themselves, jump there...
by James Fallows Jan 6, 2018 Science

I've never met or interviewed Donald Trump, though like most of the world I feel amply exposed to his outlooks and styles of expression. So I can't say whether, in person, he somehow conveys the edge, the sparkle, the ability to connect, the layers of meaning that we usually associate with both emotional and analytical intelligence.

But I have had the chance over the years to meet and interview a large sampling of people whom the world views the way Trump views himself. That is, according to this morning's dispatches, as "like, really re," and "genius." Continue reading "How Actual Smart People Talk About Themselves"

The narrative… the story that creates who you are

The narrative 1

A student of mine, after listening to my last Sunday call recording, asked why Jews turned to a different strategy than the slaves from Africa. Or Native Americans. Continue reading "The narrative… the story that creates who you are"

What is the most important skill to develop and keep using, daily, if you want to live a life you love?

We live as if things never changed. Even though we hear, read, that the only thing that is constant in life is change.

And yet, our minds, the machine-like part of us that cannot learn, won't learn, and fancies itself YOU... our minds tell us, moment to moment, that life will remain the way it is in that moment.

Is that crazy or what?

  • When something bad happens, the reaction is not to the bad thing, but to the idea that the results of the bad thing are life-long.
  • When something good happens, the reaction is not to the good thing. It is to the idea, to the notion, to the certainty, that the good thing will last a lifetime.
  • When you are well... you are sure you'll be always well. When you feel sick, you are sure that unless you fix it, you'll never feel good again. Gloom and doom, or yippee... all is wonderful. The roller coaster, I call it.

So in light of this behavior of the mind: what is the most important skill? Continue reading "What is the most important skill to develop and keep using, daily, if you want to live a life you love?"

You can’t become extraordinary if you live an ordinary life

I am getting a lot of requests to teach people how to become people who live a life worth living, who excel in all four areas, all four pillars of the good life.

My answer is almost always: Sorry I can't help you.

But why?

Today I got lucky and got my answer in a pristine form.

My University classmate, Panni called me. We talk once a month. She is, of course an architect: we were classmates in architecture school, a five year study.

And she is a mother and a grandmother. Continue reading "You can’t become extraordinary if you live an ordinary life"

Create a life you love

Oh no! This video software that used to work doesn't work any more. I cried out... This can happen to anyone. Technology changes so rapidly, keeping pace with it is both expensive and time consuming.

Sometimes there is an upgrade. Nowadays upgrades cost money... or the software developer simply abandoned you... and you are stranded with a software that doesn't work any more.

I have been teaching what I teach for seven years. Teach people a world view that has been tested and true, and includes the invisible. This world view is sharply different from the accepted norms... but it works, instead of just being a nice theory like what psychologists and philosophers teach. Or even Landmark Education... or the Kabbalah Centre... or any of the gurus. Continue reading "Create a life you love"

Want to be the one who is making the decisions in your life?

back-to-the-future-2This week has been a success for Life, and a disaster financially. Everyone was spending their money on turkey, I guess.

So I am going to announce some sales for this coming week. I'll make them good... so you'll buy.

Now, about the successes that lead me to a huge insight.

Everything that people do is guided by memes, and they think they decided to do it. And you think they decided to do it from the goodness of their heart, from the badness of their heart, whatever seem to be the case. But in fact they never decided anything... It is the memes that are doing the deciding. Continue reading "Want to be the one who is making the decisions in your life?"

Reframing: What is your higher power?

Frame: Your higher power? 1

Back in 1988 I had an emotional meltdown. I suddenly remembered things from my childhood.

I was suggested by someone in Landmark that it would be beneficial for me to join an ACOA group. Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families.

I did. I had clear signals that I belonged. #1 of the identifying features of ACOA people is "I don't know who I am". 2

Anyway, an ACOA group is not a fun place. Continue reading "Reframing: What is your higher power?"

What is the technology of personal evolution…

I have said, in another article, that what is "normal" for a vehicle for the selfish gene (a human), is to move to and then stay in an ess.

Evolutionary stable strategy. Where life works relatively smoothly.

If you listen to the genes, you'll live that way, you live in an ess.

Your job, your family, your health, your thinking are all in an ess... You don't grow, you survive. You get up in the morning because you didn't die the night before. It is probably boring, and you are probably sick, dumb, and poor. Or maybe not. It pretty much depends on what you start with.

That is how most people live, and it has a pull that is very strong.

You don't rock the boat. You make do. You may do stupid things, and they likely take you downwards, towards gravity.

Now, it is obvious that this is not the path of creating epigenetic shifts toward living a life worth living. Not for me, not for the spirit, not for the soul. It is the ideal life for the selfish gene.

But Life wants more life, and the ess way of living results in less life. Continue reading "What is the technology of personal evolution…"
